COVID-19 UPDATE FROM DR. JONES – 01/27/2021

Dear Patient:

I hope you are well. Please see the attachment for an excellent COVID presentation available to you remotely by Mayo Clinic physician Dr Greg Poland scheduled for 01/28/2021 at 7:30 AM. He is a leading COVID clinical scientist and vaccine researcher; please join by clicking on the link in the attachment.

Vaccines: Vaccination continues in our area and many of you have been able to be vaccinated and Florida has vaccinated over a million residents. I know for some it has been frustrating, but, it will improve as the vaccine supply does. Please note; only go to the approved sites below for appointments and no legitimate site will charge for the vaccine.

Appointments in Collier County for the COVID-19 vaccine:. Registration links

Publix has received vaccine and you may register at https://www.publix.com/covid-vaccine

Appointments for the vaccine in Lee County may be made by calling 1-833-618-2001.

There are available times at the Hard Rock Casino or the Florida Marlins Stadium periodically. You will need to call 786-629-5752 to make the appointment

We have applied for vaccine at the office but do not know when we will receive it. Both vaccines that have been approved are safe and efficacious, so, I recommend that you get the first that is available to you. Please also note that due to overwhelming demand both the Collier and Lee registration platforms will have challenges. I recommend that you keep trying daily to register. As more vaccine comes available, things should improve.

New CDC guidance says second coronavirus vaccine can be scheduled up to six weeks after first dose

The Washington Post (1/22, Sun) reported, “People who have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine can schedule their second shot up to six weeks later if they are not able to get one in the recommended time frame, according to updated guidance this week from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” The CDC “also said that in ‘exceptional situations,’ patients may switch from one of the authorized vaccines to the other between the first and second doses.”

The number of new daily cases, deaths and positivity rate has all declined in Collier County over the past week. This is very good news!

Testing sites in Collier County include: Advanced Medical Center (566-7676), Vava Clinic (331-8520), the health department (252-8200), EPN urgent care (775-2300), CVS (261-6444 and 775-5450), the VA Clinic (659-9188) and Pebblebrook Pharmacy 353-0800.
